In 2006, Design Associates was approached by Galway County Council to design the basic logo pack for Western Region Mussel Control Initiative. An active campaign to stop the spread of the zebra mussel: to keep Lough Corrib and other western lakes free from zebra mussels.
The brief was to create a logo that would act as a warning sign and instantly impart the message through graphic images so as to overcome any possible language barriers. The logo was rolled out throughout all educational materials used in this campaigne, incl; posters, newsletters and car stickers.
Zebra Mussel warning signs were launched in September 2006 by RTÉ’s Marine Correspondent and presenter of Seascapes, Mr. Tom Mac-Sweeney. In keeping with the appearance of Zebra Mussels, the striking background features stripes which demand the attention of the passerby. As a purely, graphic medium the signs act as visual instructions to boat owners.
